Gender
1. What are your culture’s ideals and norms in regard to gender? What are the dominant messages from your society about sexuality and sexual orientation? (In other words: what does your society tell you about gender and sexuality?)
*NOTE: We are happy to learn about ideals/norms in other cultures. If you are not discussing American culture please let us know what that culture is (e.g. Japanese culture).
2. How are gender roles different in terms of dating and relationships? Are there things certain genders are expected to do or not do? (If you have any frame of reference or feel comfortable discussing: how would this work, or what are the expectations for same-sex, trans, or other non-heteronormative relationships?)
3. Think of the toys played with as a child. Did these toys communicate information about gender? If you had been a different gender as a child, would you have been given different toys with which to play? Were there messages about gender roles or stereotypes communicated through these toys?
