Understanding Human Behavior and the social Environment
Looking back at the U.S. rich past, it is clear that the white race has taken great care to ensure that they remain superior over other people groups in the larger society. There were periods of social unrests such as the Civil War and the Civil Rights riots that showed rare instances where the superior people group was ready to give concessions to the lesser communities. This implies that though the Constitution recognized equality for all persons as one of its fundamental principle, actual human behavior within the American social environment indicates otherwise.
The sitting president, Donald Trump does not expressly espouse that there are challenges in race relations all across the contrary. His views on the subject are however well understood that he intends to ensure that African Americans remain inferior to the White people groups. Similarly, his attacks on illegal immigrants have worked to exert a notable negative influence on how other Americans perceive and engage with legal Hispanics and Latinos. Another clear example highlighting President Trump’s viewpoints on race relations is the attempt to repeal the Affordable Care Act. Minority groups have benefited considerably from the programs the law actualized. Attempting to shut it down indicates that he has little regard towards positively changing the lives of people in America’s minority groups.
As a social worker, the current leadership is detrimental towards the achievement of targets that champion for all people to be treated as equals. For instance, the earlier practices of posting the least qualified personnel to regions where communities are predominantly minority groups are expected to continue. These undermine the purpose of social justice initiatives since the superior race is accorded more opportunities for greater social development in comparison to what other people groups are offered.
