Operations Management
A briefing paper is a written summary of facts pertaining to an issue or topic. Briefing papers were originally developed for foreign ministers and bureaucrats to get them informed about a particular topic before attending meetings and conferences. As the title suggests, briefing papers are usually short and succinct. The paper for this class is to be two to three pages in length.
State your purpose and outline your content for the reader. Divide your briefing paper into short paragraphs to cover the topics you want to raise, and start a new paragraph each time you begin discussing a new idea.
Explain the background information pertinent to the briefing paper by giving the reader an idea of the reason the topic is important. Without going into too much detail, make sure you establish a clear understanding of the elements of the issue. Stay on topic and condense the material into a few sentences.
Target key considerations by using bullet points to create a short, sharp delivery strategy that will get the reader’s attention. Using this format also allows for easy reference if people want to review your briefing paper at some point in the future.
Summarize the information at the end of the paper and be sure to cite references within the paper, along with a reference page at the end in APA.
The paper for this class should cover some topic within operations and supply chain management. Topics included in the textbook are fine to cover, but you should have at least three sources beyond your textbook.
The paper is due on November 29 at 11:00 p.m. in Sakai. It is worth 30 points. The assignment is set to take inline submissions. You are welcome to type the paper in a word processor, and then just cut and paste the paper into Sakai.
