Task:

The overall aim of this essay is to demonstrate a coherent and convincing argument which is well evidenced and presented clearly.  You will see from the marking rubric, which you should consult carefully, that the marking will focus on the Quality of Argument, Strength of Evidence, and Clarity of Presentation.

Essay Question:

Evaluate the role and importance of non-technological knowledge and skills in technology companies.  Use your conclusion to comment on how businesses more generally should approach a specific global challenge they face.

Essay Guidance:

The Case Study guidance has been uploaded previously with the required reading, as well as additional reading that may help with your response to this question.  As mentioned in lectures, in your answer you may want to carefully consider whether the topics covered throughout our course in Lectures and Topic Seminars can be usefully applied.  For the second part of the question, you may choose a global challenge we have covered or something else, so long as you justify why it is a global challenge. There is no specific expectations for the second part of the question: you may interpret and respond to it however you choose, so long as you are answering some aspect of it, and focused on the marking rubric.

Length:

Maximum word count is 2,500 words (excluding reference list, figures and tables if applicable). This is a hard maximum (i.e. DO NOT exceed 2,500).

Referencing:

Quality referencing is essential in this assessment.  Please use the ‘Harvard’ referencing style, with (author, year) citations throughout and a single reference list at the end.  This reference list IS NOT included in your word count.
