CloudWatch is an AWS cloud resource that used monitoring of services, and the applications are run on Amazon Web Services. Users are able to apply CloudWatch for tracking and collecting metrics, set alarms, gather and monitor log files. CloudWatch is used in monitoring resources like RDS BD instances, DynamoDB tables, and EC2 instances (Kumar et al., 2020). CloudWatch obtains and issues metrics to every EC2 instance and is capable of working with all operating systems supported by the EC2 services (Agrawal et al., 2017). Additionally, CloudWatch incorporates with Amazon Web Services IAM to enable users to indicate the type of CloudWatch action in their AWS account can execute.
Amazon CloudWatch Logs enable the user to monitor and troubleshoot the user’s applications and systems using the user’s current custom log files and application systems. Users can make proper CloudWatch Logs to monitor their logs in real-time for specific sequences, patterns, values, and phrases (Agrawal et al., 2017). For instance, users can set the alarm on the number of errors occurring in their logs systems or view the latency graph on the number of web requests made from their application logs. The user can then view the initial log data to determines the source of the error. The log data can be kept and indefinitely accessed at low cost but highly durable so that the users do not need to be bothered with filling up hard drives.
Besides, CloudWatch is helpful in AWS cloud maintenance because it provides support to users of the services to create alarms that monitor the metrics and send automatic signals for changes the user is monitoring whenever there is a breach in the required threshold (Agrawal et al., 2017). Users can rely on data gathered by CloudWatch to write their Amazon EC2 instances, disk read and monitor CPU usage, and utilized the same data to evaluate whether they need to launch an additional instance to manage the extra load and save cost.
Recommendation on CloudWatch as an Extra feature in Cloud Deployment
As a user of CloudWatch, I would recommend it as an extra feature for cloud deployment due to the benefits accrued for using the system, such as helping in the accessibility of users’ data from a single platform of AWS. Thus, enable the collection of metrics and logs files from the single platform and services and applications run on the AWS servers (Kumar et al., 2020). Also, CloudWatch assist in generating actionable insights from log files, enhance the aggregates ownership expenses, and is the cheapest approach to gather custom metrics on AWS resources
