Business and Ethics Scenario

The Analysis of Business Reflection Presented by the Situation

In this case, our company has employed a mechanic who is asserting that his previous airline firm was carrying out “pencil maintenance”; where they record their operations in the maintenance logs though the indicated tasks are never done. For instance, this worker has hinted that the earlier was filing activities including repairs, inspections as well as standard replacements of some parts. They are various business considerations which arise from the above case. First, the aspect of recording things that are not met may deplete the quality of the services offered by this airline company. Based on this ignorance, there are higher chances that passengers are subjected risk of the plane crash since the company is not concerned about the mechanical status of their crafts (Hoppe, 2016).

There is a higher probability that the company is setting aside some cash to cater for maintenance operations but they are not aware that the allocated resources are used for the right purpose. As a result, the persons administering this sector seem to be using the maintenance fund to benefit themselves instead of considering the safety of the passengers. Similarly, the people liable for maintenance services may also be using the company resource inappropriately and tricking the management by recording that they have accomplished the assigned tasks (Thompson & Jetly, 2014).

On the other hand, the entire airline company may be using the “pencil maintenance” technique with an aim of reducing costs and expenses incurred during repair, inspections as well as replacement of worn out parts. However, the CEO may be conducting this shoddy activity and keep records showing the right progress of the firm to ensure that they are always safe in case their operations are assessed by other external organizations. Indeed, this can be used as a technique leaping much from the clients but covering the firm’s poor services by application of records demonstrating exaggerated information.  Additionally, the new worker may also be tricking the management of this company with an intention of getting a promotion. For instance, this unconfirmed report may denote this guy is a mechanic having an expertise which can make the company gain additional competency. On the other hand, this new worker can also be focused at revenging something wrong which might have been done to him by the previous company. In such situation, this person may use false allegations just to taint the reputation of the company where he worked previously (Hahn, 2014).

Comparison of Essential Approaches to Address the Situation

There are numerous ways which I can use to handle this issue. For instance, the option of reporting this situation to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) will be an ethical way of approaching the above airline company. The FAA is an organization that monitors the civil aviation industry and it also controls air traffic. Moreover, this institution is responsible for developing new aviation machinery, establishing initiatives to control noise among other factors affecting air transportation and it also supervises space shipping. Furthermore, the FAA also conducts other activities including research and development; airspace management; regulation and licensing hence focusing on offering the efficient aerospace system in the airline sector (Hoppe, 2016).

Since the FAA is concerned with the provision of leadership in developing and strategizing an effective and safe air transport system with an objective of satisfying the customers’ needs; it will take respective measures to ensure that this company is operating ethically. For example, this firm will conduct an investigation to confirm the alleged accusations. At this point, it will be determined whether this mechanic is cheating. Indeed, the FAA has the power of terminating the operation of this company, penalizing it or suspending its operations as a way of rectifying the existing irregularities and illegalities (Hahn, 2014).

Alternatively, this case should be reported to an Airline Association (AA) since this organization is concerned with ascertaining safety, reliability, and robustness of aviation in the industry in different areas. The AA serves a role of reinforcing network linking regional airlines, government regulators, industry business partners in boosting the aviation industry (Kumar BR, Sharma & Agarwal, 2015). Moreover, this organization is concerned with promoting airline interests in changing business environment. Additionally, this institution brings together various airline companies hence enabling them to exchange ideas and learn from each other through numerous forums and events.  The act of AA putting many companies together, then it will be easy for me to report the malpractices exercises by other organizations. The above argument is based on the fact our airlines are guided by similar bylaws as stated by AA hence giving other institutions power to watch over the operations carried out by other firms (Thompson & Jetly, 2014).

The Evaluation of Upsides and Risks of the Preferred Course of Action; the Emerging Ethical Considerations and Ways of reconciling them

I opt to report this airline company to FAA so that they can take the respective measures of ensuring that all business people in the aviation sector are competing fairly. The reason for choosing this route is to avoid physical conflicts which may arise in the case where I could have approached the CEO of this company to notify him of the above issue. However, there are numerous hazards associated with the action of forwarding the case to the FAA. For instance, there could be chances that the mechanic who came up with above allegations was just spreading rumors with an aim of tainting the reputation of his former employer. In this case, our company will be forced to provide confidential information showing that the above felony has happened. If our firm will fail to produce evidence concerning the above accusations; then we will be subjected to a fine for tarnishing the name of the reported company (Hoppe, 2016).

Moreover, reporting the above assertions may also lead to the eruption of rivalries between our firm and the indicted company. At this point, the management of the other institution may also create counterfeit contentions and forward them to the FAA. This conflict will attract lots of losses and expenses since our company will spend lots of resources including hiring lawyers to represent us during a court hearing. Also, some operations in our company may get held up to allow the FAA to investigate the raised claims hence subjecting us to huge losses. Unfortunately, reporting this firm to the FAA might make them to make advancement in their operations as well as starting to use updated crafts hence they will continue dominating the aviation sector (BR, Sharma & Agarwal, 2015).

There are various approaches our company will use to reconcile the ethical considerations that emanate from this case. For instance, it would be wise not to let the other company realize that their weaknesses are already known to ascertain that they proceed to offer outdated and poor services. Subsequently, we should advance our operations to ensure that we have deployed the other company before its management detect that its company is overtaken. Moreover, we can send our informer to check whether the information leaked by a mechanic is true to avoid chances where our company may be fined for tarnishing the name of its competitor. On the other hand, we can request passengers who have been using the company’s service to report the case to FAA instead of our company appearing as the claimant. The act of using another entity as the applicant will ensure that business-based conflict has not occurred since the CEO of the accused corporation will not know whether we participated in suing them (Hahn, 2014).

The Aspect of the Decisions I Would Communicate and Share with the CEO of the other Company

Irrespective of the two companies being in the same sector and offering similar services, there is information which I will share with the CEO of the other firm since he might not be aware of awful practices that are carried out by the workers. I would consider paying a visit or calling the administrator of the accused organization and him know the spreading news about his company. Indeed, this is a wise option for my company might be having some shoddy businesses going undercover and no single employee can speak it out since they are all benefiting from it. This action will save the company from collapsing and also lead to accumulation of passenger using aircrafts since they will be sure that the mode of air transport is always safe (Thompson & Jetly, 2014).

Also, if the management of this company was aware of the above issue, then they might change before they are reported to the airline authorities. Indeed, this action can help in preventing the existence of rivalries which can emanate from our firm reporting the other company. Moreover, the manager of the accused organization will be happy since he will not get fined by the FAA or AA for practicing unethical activities and it will also retain its reputation in the market. Furthermore, I will have saved the company from media attack which can make many passengers opt to use other means of transport since they shall not want to be associated with profit-centered firm or organization that is not concerned about the clients’ safety. Nevertheless, the act of talking to the CEO of the alleged firm will prevent the emergence of plane’s accident in the future for I will make him understand the essence of quality flight services. Despite the aspect that many people can’t inform their competitors about the risky activities happening underground, I consider enlightening my opponent to save his company from collapsing (Hoppe, 2016).

Professional Correspondence

I have written this letter to notify you about unethical practices which are reported to us by your former worker. It has come to our attention that your mechanics are using “pencil maintenance” tactic, hence recording maintenance services which they have not accomplished and they never do these operations later. Indeed, this action can make the passengers who have been using airline services to start applying other means of transport since your exercises are making this field to appear as a profit-making sector which doesn’t mind the customers’ safety. Also, it would be unfair for failing to inspect, repair and replace the worn out parts of your crafts since ignorance can lead to a plane crash in the future hence leading to deaths of innocent souls (Hahn, 2014).

Moreover, we have been operating with respect to a mission of offering quality services and you need to put this objective into practice. For instance, the flights are normally expensive and therefore the customers should be given services which align with their contributions. It is immoral not to be maintaining your crafts since this practice may still subject you big losses in case you crafts are involved in accidents which you could have prevented by just repairing the jets. Furthermore, you are aware that the airline companies operate under specific policies and ruling which are against your practices. For you to show respect these operational guidelines set by the regional aviation association and the FAA, you should, therefore, ascertain that you are using updated technologies to avoid conflicting with the rule of law (Kumar BR, Sharma & Agarwal, 2015).

Also, it is important for companies transacting similar businesses to ascertain equity and equality in the exploitation of the available resources. Nonetheless, there will be no fair trade if you are will continue evading some costs yet we are charging a similar amount to our clients. You should stop using these illegal methods focused on attracting extra profits for you are abusing the competitors and clients.  Indeed, it is essential to do the right business because this malpractice can attract huge fines or cancellation of working license (Hoppe, 2016).
