Mission statement

Producing high qualified nurses who would deliver comprehensive health care services that would enhance the health and wellbeing of the increasing number of health consumers. The community health nursing program also enables the nursing students to use evidence-based health promote and protect the health of the vulnerable populations in the society. The program will also equip nursing students with skills of assessing protective and predictive attributes, values, beliefs and practices of individuals, families, communities and populations.

Measurable Learning Outcomes

  1. Understanding various health conditions that are a major burden in the contemporary society and the basic principles of epidemiology.
  2. Understanding the causes of various conditions, the risk factors, protective factors, and physical, financial and cultural beliefs which are related to effective and comprehensive health care in the society.
  3. Explain the major health promotion measures.

Type of assignment for each assignment

For the first outcome to be achieved, I will assign take-away assignments where each student will utilize digital and library tools to read different resources in order to effectively complete the assignment. The reason for embracing take-away assignments is to enable the student to read widely and comprehensively in order to effectively understand the concept. This will be supplemented with the various lectures that I will teach them within the class, soon after they submit their assignments. According to an article that was written by McArthur, giving students take away assignments enables them to effectively connect with the course content, as well as their research skills (McArthur, 2013). It enables them to familiarize themselves with the research resources such as library and the digital resources, and this does not only help them in understanding the course or unit under study, but also in other related units as well.  In order to achieve the second outcome, I will embrace group discussions and presentations. Precisely, I will group the students into different groups and assign them different health conditions to research and discuss, and then mandate each group to present their work in class. I will emphasize that each group member will have a part to present in class. Group discussions helps in brainstorming and enhancing the communication and presentation skills of every student, and this is a fundamental aspect especially to the nursing students.

In order to achieve the third outcome, I will assign reading assignments coupled with class discussions. In this assignment, I will ask students questions which they would respond in accordance to what they have read in the reading assignment. According to an article that was published by the Arkansas State University, giving students reading assignments helps in fostering creativity, imagination, and critical thinking (Arkansas State University, 2017). In addition, assigning students reading assignments helps them to enhance their reading skills as well as their overall communication literacy. In addition, by asking reading questions, students enhance their level of self confidence as well as their social skills, and this leads to improved collaboration (Clark, 2011). In addition to this, giving students reading assignments enables them to become familiar with what the educator intends to teach them, which in the long run promotes better understanding.

For this program, I will use different titles such as foundations of nursing health promotion, clinical acute care, and nursing leadership in health care delivery systems.

Areas to place indirect measure and the outcomes that the indirect measure aligns

I will place indirect aspect of assessing the learning and comprehension skills of the community health nursing students in the response to the reading assignments. In this case, I will ensure that I give all the students a reading assignment after which I will assess their understanding by asking them questions which relates to the reading assignments. In this case, I will mange to establish students who have really read the stipulated reading assignment based on the manner in which each student responds to the reading questions. Precisely, if a student happens to be having difficulties or having no idea concerning the reading question that I will happen to direct to him or her, I will manage to establish that he or she has not effectively read the assigned reading. I will do this in order to achieve the third outcome (health promotion strategies).
