Introduction

Learning psychology is interesting in its entirety. Much of what is introduced is not just theoretical but also practical in the sense that concepts that are taught in psychology oscillate around what one experiences on a daily basis. In consideration of the perspective that I have had much interest to understand the best ways to parent children, I tended to enjoy the lessons that reflected upon the Infant attachment styles and parenting styles.

First, I have learned that there are distinct styles of infant attachment. I have also understood the difference between an authoritarian and authoritative parent, something that I used to believe was the same. Regarding the infant attachment styles, I now fathom why young children behave the way they do. Infants do not avoid their parents because it is just natural. However, it is because the parent fails to uphold to the appropriate ways of handling them. For instance, it is important a parent responds to a baby’s needs promptly. Further, I have learned the essentiality of giving the baby sufficient physical contact. However, when it comes to parenting, authoritative parents are likely to raise their children in a better way than the authoritarian parents.

Accordingly, a series of misconceptions regarding how infants and children should be treated have changed. Initially, I believed that infants too should occasionally be scorned to scare them from doing wrong. However, I think that the best way to handle infants and children should be to balance between discipline and accepting them.

Now, I view the world in a different way especially when it comes to participating in the mental development of the children. Most children across the world who failed to get the right kind of parenting tend to suffer discrepancies associated with poor mental development. As such, I definitely will have an idea of how to deal with young children from the family and society level to foster better development.
