The Good life concept has been defined in various ways by various individuals depending on their experience, achievements and future anticipations. Some interpret good life as any living standard that is full of eudemonia (also known as human flourishing or life success) that has been realized through an outstanding reasoning by an individual within his or her spheres of life (Van PP. 8-14). Others define a good life as one that is free from bills, drama, challenges and ill-health to mind about, and at the end of the day one has a sense of clear mind and a carefree future (O’Toole PP. 14-16). This paper pays high attention to a discussion of how an undergraduate experience at the University of Florida prepares me, a software engineering student to live a good life.
The knowledge and skills that am gaining in the university would help me to adapt, incorporate and advance the technological changes that are in the 21st century (Higgs & Strong P. 28). For example, these skills would enable me to develop softwares that are solutions to various life problems. In addition, the numerous academic tests and assignment group discussions would improve my reasoning potential, thus preparing me to be aggressive in getting solutions to various life challenges (Chang P. 206). A good life is enhanced by knowledge and skills of an individual and problem free environments (Poel & Lamber P. 96). It is very rare to hear well equipped and knowledgeable individuals living poor quality lives.
Consecutively, the skills and knowledge bestowed from the university prepares me to be an employer or an employee, either of which results in income realization (Bucci P. 140). For example, the basic needs such as food, shelter and clothing, and other necessities are catered with much ease. Easy access of these basic needs, especially a balanced diet enhances the health of individuals and thus cannot be easily attacked by opportunistic diseases and other adverse conditions such as malnutrition, which are common in unhealthy and poverty-stricken individuals. In the contemporary society, it is very rare for healthy people to be hospitalized. In addition, the financial security enables individuals to enjoy different hobbies and interests, and thus instituting happiness in their lives (Martin PP. 1-7). Income improves the living standards, hence good quality life (Mankiw P. 12).
Moreover, my interaction with different students from different backgrounds in the university enhances socialization which is linked with life happiness, which is a contributing factor in making life good (Berns PP.2-3). Additionally, socialization reduces stress, desperation and other vices which contribute to poor quality of life. In most cases, the anti-social individuals prefer keeping their challenges within themselves rather than sharing with others, which then accumulate beyond the threshold level leading to depression, hospitalization and in some cases death results (Kekes p. 1). Some sages put it that a problem shared is half solved and thus, anti-social individuals are in deficit of problem solving and reasoning skills which are partly acquired from the social dimension.
It is, therefore, evident that the undergraduate experience in the university me prepares to live a quality life in the recent future. The adequate knowledge, skills, excellent reasoning and socialization aspects would outstandingly enable me to live a good life. That is, a flourishing life full of happiness, free from diseases and easy access of basic needs, hobbies and interests, which has been realized as a result of an integration of socialization, excellent reasoning, knowledge, skills and technological values.
